Prize Council Holds Meeting at UNESCO-IHE in Delft

1st Meeting for 4th RoundOn 30 October 2009, the Council for the Prince Sultan International Prize for Water held its first meeting for the Fourth Award of the Prize in the city of Delft in The Netherlands.

For each two-year round of the Prize, the Prize Council convenes four meetings: two at the PSIPW headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, one in another Arab country, and one in a non-Arab country.

For the Fourth Award (2008-2010), The Netherlands honored the Prize by extending an invitation to hold its international meeting in the historic city of Delft.

The Prize Council meeting was preceded by a Round Table discussion at the library of UNESCO-IHE convened by Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) where a delegation of Dutch water officials discussed with the Prize Council Dutch views and approaches to the global water situation.

The discussion was moderated by NWP director Mr. Jeroen van der Sommen. Presentations were given by Mr. Rene Noppeney, Division director for water at Royal Haskoning, Mr. Lute Broens, business development director at Norit PT, and Mr. Joop de Schutter, deputy director of UNESCO-IHE.

The Prize Council, led by its chairman, His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz, then moved to the Prinsenkamer (Prince Room) of UNESCO-IHE to convene its first meeting for the Prize's fourth award.

Round Table Discussion, UNESCO-IHEThe UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education is an international institute for water education owned by all UNESCO member states. It is established as a UNESCO ‘Category I institute’ jointly by UNESCO and the Government of the Netherlands. It is the largest water education facility in the world and the only institution in the UN system authorized to confer accredited Master of Science degrees.
